ABOUT QUEER’ISTS

Queer’ists was launched in March 2011 by Marta Kochanek. Bringing emerging as well as established artist in one place, artists that have achieved high levels of success within art, the project is designed to be a platform to all LGBT artists and art lovers.

The project is to gather wise, creative people whose activism and existence brought something important into LGBT world as well as queer artists whose work not necessarily must have that “activism” attached. The project is to explore ideas of gender, identity and art through analogue medium-format as well as digital photography. The idea is to photograph and interview LGBT Artists as well as promote creative existence of homosexual individuals.

Photographs, which aim to take look at Gay, Lesbian and Queer individuals expressing themselves through the art and other creative ways of living.

LGTB Artists are welcome to join! Artists whose existence, passion and love are described and immortalized through the Art. Artists and muses within their environment and spaces.

Does the world is changing? How do we go through life and what do we still have to face with? How can we all do it together to be recognized as normal not only artists but mainly people?

  1. Perhaps the question we are facing is: What is “normal” & how can we open space for the word’s definition to change & grow to include us? Maybe there is no inclusion just as there is no solidarity in suffering…

I think the world will stay divided forever into ‘homo normal’ and ‘hetero normal’. both definitions will be living their own lives. let’s build up our space as there is no solidarity at all, sadly.

    Marta,
Not sure if my work would be of interest as I am a painter.. couldn’t tell from the write up if seeking only Photographers.
My own work is quite activist focused and I use symbolism in my work.
It however is not always blatant so that it is approachable by a wide audience.
The work incorporating the Poppy flowers is a play on words for Papi.. what my son calls me. We are an gay adoptive family.
I’m currently working on a series of 12 paintings titled “The Herd”. The first four will be released on my site on or near Monday 3/28. In The Herd, I am exploring social, environmental and spirituality issues and topics via extreme use of symbolism.
In any event, I wish you the best on your project.

    Kind regards,

i am a gay artist from Vancouver, BC, Canada. i create various forms of art but my gems are my “Connectiles”. these are limited edition fine art ceramics, digital prints on 6″ x 6″ ceramic tiles and framed in a deep, floating canvas frame. very unique, contemporary and collectible. http://kevinharney.com. i also produce limited edition fine art prints or giclee prints. i have also printed my art as large scale installations on many different materials. as a graphic/web designer, i also starting to design and market online, digital magazines/books for the promotion of a company’s business, product or organization. examples of books of my “Connectiles” that i have produced can be viewed here: http://issuu.com/atman-gallery.
thank you for starting this Queer’ists project!!

  5. Marta, very interesting concept. Fortunately, I have not been presented with obstacles in presenting my art ( or others) due to my sexual orientation. I first and foremost present myself as an artist, public servant, and if asked, an opinionated, very much married, gay man. I am very active in non-profits from the national to local arenas, and serve on many Board of Directors in Central Florida.

My personal artwork tends to deal with man’s inner struggle, perhaps vices that I have myself overcome.

If I can be of any help, please feel free to contact me.

    Thanks so much,

  6. Marta,
It was a pleasure and honor to work with you yesterday. Your professionalism behind the camera is outstanding, and calm, enthusiastic demeanor put me at ease through out the experience. It was a fun and inspiring interview. Thank you for developing a space for the queer community. I’m looking forward to watching the queerist community grow-and this to be a safe haven for creative collaborations, networking and support. Janice and I were delighted to share a slice of Brooklyn with you.
    Warmest regards and hugs !
